I’m Gonna Lasso Santa Claus – I Really Wish You Wouldn’t

Many people have that one Christmas song they hate. Some have more than one! For a lot of people it seems to be Last Christmas, while others seem unable to stand A Wonderful Christmastime for some reason. For me it’s I’m Gonna Lasso Santa Claus. The lyrics are stupid in a nonsense and irrelevant sort of way, and the voice is extremely irritating. 

But the main reason I’ve come to dislike this song so much is something completely different. The message and sentiment are absolutely terrible. So here’s this do-gooder kid who thinks it would be clever to commit the criminal acts of kidnap and stealing, to give deprived kids some presents. But if that’s not bad enough, think of the implications. He’s going to deprive all the kids of the world who are expecting presents – and will be very upset at not getting any –  to give them to a few who aren’t expecting any anyway. 

Also, talk about teaching that the end justifies the means. It never occurs to him to tell Santa the problem, inform him some kids aren’t getting any presents, or even simply confront him about his negligence (if he thinks Santa is to blame). Nope! Just take away Christmas from many, many other children. That’s a really great thing to do! If he cares so much about these deprived kids why doesn’t he spend his own allowance on presents for the boy and girl who Santa apparently never goes to. Or invite them and their family over for Christmas.

I’m probably overthinking it, but there you go!

The Breadwinner - Less To Complain About Than Usual!

When I realised this movie was Nora Twomey (simplifying for clarity) my heart sank. Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea, My Father’s Dragon, and Wolfwalkers are great films in theory but by goodness are they slow and boring. Miraculous World was a Pain, then I realised I don’t think much of the series either!

The Miraculous Ladybug Movie was brilliant, and corrected many of the issues and questionable things that were in the show. Miraculous World on the other hand . . .  It was boring. It has interesting things in it but somehow they don’t come off as interesting. This show always felt unimaginative and formulaic – as opposed to Phineas and Ferb which is formulaic, but it isn’t a downside and doesn’t feel tired. Miraculous feels tired after three episodes, and feels the same whatever episode in whichever season you watch. World is worse, though, as it feels like one really dragged out episode.  The characters are flat and uninteresting. I mean, you’ve had quite a while to put in some character development. Why are any changes only due to bad writing? The show is like a western animated series mixed with an anime but not using any of the good parts of either, ending up with an uninspiring and unoriginal show that doesn’t seem to be trying to be anything at all. A Moany Introduction

 Like many British people I spend much of my time complaining. It can be anything. Waiting in a queue, the fact of the queue exists, the shower water running out, or burning the toast yet again. Don't worry though, most of the time you won't be hearing about how you always get one tiny stain of tomato sauce on you every time you eat it, or stuff like that. While I will talk about a few more real-life things, here I will prioritising posts about movies, series, and books. Am I the only one finding the Blogger settings hard to find? Took me half an hour to delete an ancient blog I found on here when I arrived. I keep having to go on Google and type in Blogger settings to get anywhere! Might just be me.
