Lissea Complains About The Warriors Series (Largely The Broken Code) *Spoilers*

I was, or is it am into, I'm not sure, but never mind. Warriors. Great. Until recently. Or not so recently. But if you're reading, chances are you know stuff already because you know, spoilers in the title.  Warriors turned into a mess, and seems set on challenging itself to become a much worse mess at the moment. Gone on to long, completely different writers from when started? Possibly a partial explanation. But here's some stuff I got frustrated while reading it.  Warriors takes place in Britain. There are no turtles in Britain. No cat would know what a turtle was, therefore Turtletail’s name is actually impossible. Tortoisetail, maybe, but not Turtletail. British people also always call tortoises tortoises, never turtles, so there’s no get out there either. Pretty sure no character has ever used the word turtle either, but if they had, that would be a mistake as well. There are also no chipmunks in Britain, yet one is mentioned in one of the books. As far as my reading g...

Cadence Versus Cadance (My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic)

Today I talk about the mess that is Cadence's (Cadance's) name spelling in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. Before anyone points it out (which no-one will!), yes, my first MLP FIM fan character's name goes against what I am about to say - but that's the sort of thing you get with a first fan character! So there we are. Some of you theoretically may have seen me write Cadence with a certain stubbornness. Okay, nobody has, but here we go anyway. Cadance: it is the one canon thing I will forever refuse to follow. Wanting to name a character after your daughter is no excuse for doing something that is not only nonsensical, but arguably world-breaking. Cadence, means something, like all pony character names do. Cadance does not. It is a word spelled wrong at best, and there are no other names like that in this universe. If there were, chances are it would be some kind of pun. It makes little enough sense to do this in the real world, let alone here with an established na...

I loved Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, and then suddenly I didn’t

This movie has brilliant world building, an extremely involving beginning, and feels as deep and mysterious as the jungle itself. I was really excited. I was going so well for quite a while in and then suddenly it changed. It started with the hunter, or, maybe it started before but I didn’t notice. He was white. This struck me as odd to begin with. While I have only read the first book once, I have picked various things up from online videos, and have seen illustrations. The hunter is meant to be Indian, and the chief hunter in that village. And when you think about it, what’s this white guy doing in India in the middle of nowhere anyway. Okay, if you think about it deeply you could probably work out an explanation, he’s a trophy hunter, yadda yadda yadda. But even so, it doesn’t feel right. But what really doesn’t feel right is that no-one ever race-bends a coloured character into a white character. And they changed his name too. Something was up. After a while, I understood. Th...

Return of the "Volunteer" Beta Reader Scammers!

People really don’t like it when you say you like something but can’t understand why it’s loved, do they? I’m guessing I’ll be putting off talking about Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. That will probably blow up more than one of my fantastically bad migraines! Well, back to the fun. I swear it took me half an hour to find that schedule button. All the tutorials are from a previous version of Blogger! Anyway, as it’s still a hot topic for me, today you’re going to hear more of my complaining about scam “volunteer” Beta Readers. They just keep coming. I’ve had nine so far, and have scheduled Twitter posts with tips on how to notice them as they’ve become such a big part of my life. I’m turning into a right lobbyist. I have already spoken a lot about this in my Reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/writing/comments/1n4d8yx/beware_professional_beta_readers/ so I am therefore going to focus on things that have come about since I made it. So these guys come along, largely to a Beta Re...

The Unoriginal Disaster That Is Spellbound (2024)

Today I'm going to complain about Spellbound (2024), and boy does it feel like it was made in 2024. Spellbound is the most, and most obviously, derivative movie I have seen in quite some time.  Every shot in this movie feels like it was taken from another, well-known movie. There's one at the beginning that feels exactly like How To Train Your Dragon when Hiccup is flying with Toothless, for example. When this is not happening, it is trying to imminante something else while also giving off a wannabe quirky vibe combined with uncanny valley. It is trying to be too many things too, but being none of them. You're just left with a feeling of weirdness. I'm getting a sense of Secret Magic Control Agency here too, but Spellbound seems to be trying to copy its bad elements rather than what was good about it. The protagonist feels like a more annoying Anna from Frozen with the body language of Mirabel from Encanto. The creators are clearly trying too hard with this, and it bord...
